MFT (myofunctional therapy) is training that corrects "tongue habits" and the "balance of the muscles around the mouth," both of which can harm the alignment of your teeth. Balancing these muscles during childhood makes it easier for the teeth to come together in a correct bite. Also, however neatly orthodontic treatment lines up your teeth, a habit of pushing the teeth with the tongue or breathing through the mouth that has not been corrected can cause the teeth to shift back after treatment. Learning the correct tongue position, breathing and swallowing helps you keep your teeth well aligned.

Recommended for people who:

  • find that their mouth naturally falls open (mouth breathing)
  • have a habit of pushing their tongue out when speaking or swallowing
  • are having orthodontic treatment, or have finished it, and want to do everything they can to prevent their teeth from shifting back afterwards
