Periodontal disease is a condition in which the bone that supports your teeth gradually dissolves. As it progresses, the teeth may no longer be held firmly in place and can become loose. Periodontal disease is diagnosed by measuring the depth of the periodontal pockets between the teeth and gums. A pocket depth of 4 to 5 mm is diagnosed as mild to moderate periodontal disease, and 6 mm or more as severe periodontal disease.

Treatment mainly involves removing the tartar and biofilm that cause the disease and learning proper brushing technique. Depending on your condition, we may also combine this with surgical treatment or laser treatment. Periodontal treatment is not completed in a single visit; improvement comes over several visits. We hope to move forward with your treatment together, keeping in close communication with you along the way.

Recommended for people who:

  • feel their gums have started to recede, or notice bleeding when brushing
  • feel as if their teeth are "floating," or have loose teeth that make it hard to bite hard foods
  • have been told they have periodontal disease but haven't seen a dentist recently
