White spots are unnatural, patchy white marks or cloudy areas that appear on the surface of the teeth. They form when early tooth decay dissolves minerals such as calcium out of the tooth, or when the teeth did not develop fully in early childhood.
For mild cases, we use a fluoride paste to promote remineralization. Depending on how far the condition has progressed, we will suggest the most suitable approach, such as ICON, a treatment that infiltrates the tooth with resin, or removing only the affected spot and restoring it with white resin.
Recommended for people who:
- have small white spots or patterns on the surface of their front teeth that stand out and bother them
- have been told these are signs of early tooth decay but do not want their teeth drilled
- found that the white cloudy areas stood out even more after whitening
